Learn Letter V

Learn letter V through writing practice, books, crafts, songs, STEM, worksheets, and fun! Letter V is so much fun — volcanos, violins, and vacations! All worksheets are free, printable PDFs. Check out your public library for the books that we used this week.

Monday — Volcano

  • Writing Practice: write Uppercase Letter V. Here is a free practice worksheet from A to Z Teacher stuff: Uppercase V

My son loves Paw Patrol! This pup show is preschool favorite and this carry-along book is tons of fun! It has pull tabs to add to the enjoyment as preschoolers learn how the Paw Patrol saves the Turbots and monkeys from an exploding volcano! Marshall uses his water cannons to cool the lava, Skye, Chase, and Ryder swoop in for some daring rescues, and Rubble used his digger to stop the flow of lava.

  • Craft: Tissue Paper Volcano — supplies needed are black and white construction paper, orange tissue paper, glue, and scissors.
  • Song: We watched and sang along to the “Lava” music video from Disney’s Moana: https://youtu.be/uh4dTLJ9q9o. (I’ll take any excuse to listen to the songs from Moana!).

Tuesday —

  • STEM: make a volcano — I found an easy volcano recipe on sciencefun.org.

Look out! The volcano is erupting!!!!!!

  • Air Writing: Ask your child to hold up a hand and trace letter V shapes with their finger in the air. I was skeptical of this at first, but my son really got into it and I found him air writing his letters all on his own.

Wednesday — V is for Violin

  • Writing Practice: write lowercase letter v. Here is a free practice worksheet from A to Z Teacher stuff: lowercase letter v
  • Book: Mole Music by David McPhail — my family enjoys David McPhail’s books! In Mole Music, a mole hears someone playing beautiful music on a violin and sent out to learn to play the violin himself. He practices in his underground home and the lovely music can be heard above ground by all of the creatures and people who pass by. Unbeknownst to mole, the music fills everyone’s hearts and brings about a beautiful peace. This story shows how music touches our hearts and how playing an instrument can bring about beauty for ourselves and for others.
  • Craft: Letter V Collection – look around for things that you can make letter V with, such as popsicle sticks, paint brushes, markers, really anything with straight lines. As my son was looking for things to make V, he was calling out other letters that he saw too!

  • Math: Count how many things you collected to make your letter V collection!

Thursday —

  • Salt Tray Writing: cover the bottom of a shallow tray or pie tin with table salt. Your child can take one finger to trace letter shapes in the salt.
  • Activity: Free the Toy from the Vines — this a fun scissor skills activity for preschoolers to practice cutting. To complete this activity you will need green construction paper, tape, safety scissors, and a plastic toy that won’t get damaged from scissors.

1. First cut the green construction paper into strips to be the vines.

2. Wrap the vines loosely around the plastic toy and tape the ends of the vines hold them in place.

3. Ask your preschooler to free the toy from the vines by cutting the vines off!

Friday — V is for Vacation

  • Writing Practice: write Uppercase Letter V and lowercase letter v.

K5 Learning has a great letter V writing practice worksheet available for free: https://www.k5learning.com/worksheets/kindergarten/printing-letters-v.pdf

Family Trip book
  • Book: Peppa Pig’s Family Trip. My kid is a Peppa Pig fan and we have seen this episode, so it was fun to find it in book form. In this story, Peppa and her family travel to Italy (lucky pigs!). Just like in the show, the book captures the fun adventure of exploring somewhere new. Peppa keeps forgetting her teddy bear and a nice policeman keeps returning it to her! Will she make it home with her bear? Read this book and find out 🙂
  • Activity: Draw a picture of where you would to go on vacation! Do you want to go the beach? visit family? camp in the woods?
