Make new, upcycled melted crayons out of broken bits of crayons! No more tossing those broken crayons pieces. You can melt the broken pieces and make new crayons for your child. I was a little skeptical about this, but thought it would be fun to give it a try. I bought a silicone dinosaur chocolate mold and it actually works to make new dino-shaped crayons! Now we have super cute little dinosaur crayons. My son, nephew, and my friends’ children love these dinosaur crayons! I just discovered this silicone gems mold and I can’t wait to give it a try.
How To:
The first thing is to save your broken crayon pieces. Every time I come across one, I toss it into the mold. I like to mix and match colors together so I just toss them in indiscriminately, but you can also make each one a solid color. Make sure that broken pieces of crayons are crammed in tightly, with pieces sticking up out of the top. The crayons will melt and merge together so don’t worry about a little space in-between.
Preheat your oven to 220 degrees. I put my silicon mold on top of a flat baking sheet to make it easier for me to handle and to catch any spills. Bake your crayons for 12-15 minutes until crayons are all the way melted. We found that some of the non-name brand crayons didn’t melt ( I wonder what they are made of?), so keep that in mind when selecting which broken crayons to save.

The crayons will be liquid and super hot — BE CAREFUL. Let the melted crayons cool in the silicone mold for about an hour before carefully popping them out. A little bit of orange crayon overflowed onto my pan. I was able to get off easily by gently scraping it with my fingernail.

These melted crayons turned out awesome! My son likes them a lot and I am so happy to get more use out of broken crayons. I think these crayons would make great party favors and fun surprises for friends!
