Pig Paper Bag Puppet

Here is a quick and easy pig paper bag puppet that is perfect to accompany learning letter P. Paper bag puppets are a lot of fun and typically can be made with supplies you already have at home. My son loves playing with his paper bag puppets–they lend themselves so well to kids’ creative play!

Supplies Needed:

  • paper bag (lunch size)
  • pink construction paper
  • pink pipe cleaner
  • googly eyes
  • marker
  • glue
  • scissors
  • tape

How To:

First cut out your shapes: 1 large oval for the body. 1 medium circle for the face, 2 triangles for ears, and 2 rectangles for the arms. Our pig puppet didn’t have legs, but feel free to cut out 2 more rectangles for legs if want.

Second, glue all of your pieces onto the paper bag. The side of the bag with the flap is the front. Be careful not to glue the flap shut when adding the face to the flap. We used a glue stick, but white school glue will also work. Glue the arms onto the front of the bag. Position them any way you like. Using a marker, color in the hoof part at the end of the arms.

Since our project is part of our learning Letter P week, my son wrote a P on the pig’s tummy — Letter P is for pig, pink, and puppet!

Draw your pig’s snout by making an oval shape on your pig’s face. Add two nostrils. Stick on your googly eyes to complete the face.

For the tail, curl part of a pipe cleaner around your finger to make it into a spiral shape. Leave part of the pipe cleaner straight. Tape the straight end onto the back of the bag. Position the tail so that the curly end is sticking out off to one side so you can see it.

Now your pig paper bag puppet is complete. Let the fun begin! What other letter P things can you and piggie find?
