Paper Plate Winter Cap Craft

Make a cute paper plate winter cap craft with just a few supplies. My son and I each made one and we had a lot of fun doing this craft together. He does a lot of drawing and coloring on his own, so it was fun to give him a chance to do some painting.

Supplies Needed:

  • paper plate
  • scissors
  • watercolor paints
  • water cup
  • paint brush
  • white glue
  • coffee filter (you can substitute a large pom-pom or wad up a piece of tissue paper)

How To:

Cut a paper plate in half. Use one of the pieces to be your cap. Turn the plate upside down.

Paint your plate. Use your imagination — make it all one color or multiple colors. I find that watercolor paints work well for painting in the plate’s grooves. Plus, water colors dry fairly quickly and spills are easy to wipe up. Let your plate dry.

Paint your coffee filter. Beware that the color will seep through the coffee filter onto your surface so be sure to paint on something that is is easily cleanable, or paint on top of a piece of cardboard. Let your coffee filter dry.

Once dry, scrunch up your coffee filter to be the poof at the top of your cap. Glue it to the top of your paper plate. Let your glue dry before showing off your paper plate winter cap.
