Supplies Needed:
Make a Mermaid Tail craft out of construction paper, paint, and an empty toilet paper roll. It is fun and easy and we thought ours turned out pretty cute. Best part was that we didn’t have to go out and get supplies so we could immediately dive in and make this craft.
- Green construction paper
- Paint (I like to use Crayola Washable Paints)
- Paper Plate
- Empty toilet paper roll
- Scissors
How-To:
Cut a mermaid tail shape out of green construction paper.
Next cut your toilet paper roll in half so that you have 2 half circles at the ends. This will be the scales stamp.
My son picked 2 colors for his scales: blue and pink. I dumped some of each color paint onto a paper plate. He dipped the end his toilet paper roll into the paint and then stamped into his tail to make scales. We always use Crayola Washable Paints because they are easy to wipe up and come off fingers!
I was on hand to help hold the tail while my son stamped. He decided to make alternate pink and blue rows of scales. Pick what ever paint colors you like and choose a pattern that you want to make. Maybe you want to switch colors for every other scale instead of every other row. Let your imagination guide you as create your mermaid tail craft!
Once you have added all of your scales, let your project dry. Now you have your very own awesome mermaid tail! While it’s drying you can read a mermaid story. We recommend How to Catch a Mermaid by Adam Wallace. It’s a rhyming, silly adventure about kids who try to catch a mermaid, but end up getting themselves caught instead.
Thanks for crafting with me. I love reusing things I have at home and making paintbrushes/stamps out of various objects. We thought making scales out of toilet paper rolls was a lot of fun! Check out my crafts page for more ideas.
