Letter X

Letter x is hard one! For all of the other letters in the alphabet, I focused on the first letter in each word to correspond with the letter of the week, but I couldn’t make it work with letter x. So for this week, we focused on letter x sounds at the end of the word, such as in BOX and FOX. Super Simple has a great video about words that end in letter X:Super Simple Turn and Flip X

Monday — X is in Box

“The Box Turtle”

The Box Turtle by Vanessa is sweet story about little turtle is born without a shell. Not to worry though, because he gets a cardboard box to use as a shell.

Supplies needed: 2 different colors of construction paper, scissors, glue, and stamps or stickers.

Choose one color of paper and cut 2 long strips. Ask your child to glue these strips into an X shape on top of your other piece of construction paper. Now it’s time to decorate! Grad your stamps or stickers and decorate letter X.

Tuesday — X is in Six

SING A SONG OF SIXPENCE

Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing,
Oh wasn’t that a dainty dish to set before the king?
The king was in his counting house counting out his money,
The queen was in the parlour eating bread and honey
The maid was in the garden hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose!

Wednesday — X is in Fox

Warning, this silly, rhyming book will result in tongue-twisting giggles! The funny rhymes and bright pictures will keep preschoolers engaged throughout the story. This book is on the long side, but the silliness should keep preschoolers entertained as you rhyme your way through this one. Skip a few pages if you think the story is getting too long.
