I saw an educator make a goat paper plate craft years ago and I thought it turned out so cool! This craft has been in the back of my mind ever since. My 3 year old fell in love with Paul Galdone’s version of the Three Billy Goats Gruff so I decided we should give the goat craft a try 🙂
Supplies Needed:
- 1 paper plate
- scissors
- watercolor paints
- paintbrush
- water cup
- glue or stapler
- construction paper
- googly eyes
- a marker
Craft How To:
First, cut out a rectangle shape from your paper plate. My rectangle gets a little wider at one end. Cut 2 horns out of the leftover paper plate.
Next, paint your paper plate. The skinnier end of the paper plate will the goat’s beard at the bottom of its face. My son made the goat’s face brown and painted the beard black. Paint your goat any color you want! Use your creativity 🙂 Maybe you have a favorite goat at the petting zoo, or saw a really awesome goat in a book that you want to paint.
While my son was painting, I cut out 2 ears from brown construction paper. They loosely resemble big rain drops.
Once the paint was dry, I stapled the ears and the horns to the goat’s face. You can glue these on if you don’t have a stapler. My son added on the googly eyes and he drew a nose and mouth with a regular Crayola marker. To finish our goat, my son cut the goat’s beard into skinny strips to make it look hairy!
I am impressed with his goat paper plate craft! It turned out so cute. We have it hanging in his room 🙂 It watches over us as we read! I always try to tie my crafts and book themes together to extend the fun and the learning. I included an Amazon Affiliate link to the Three Billy Goats Gruff book above. If you happen to buy it, or something else though a link I posted, then I get a small percentage of the sale (at no additional cost to you). This helps support the fees I pay to host my site. Thank you for your support!
